Albert Claude
Burroughs
June 2, 1929 – September 23, 2022
Albert Claude Burroughs, 93, resident of Moose Lake, died peacefully in Moose Lake Village on Friday, September 23rd, 2022. He was born in Bridgewater, SD on June 2nd, 1929 to Emmett and Viola (Hofer) Burroughs.
Al married Imogene Hyden on May 23rd, 1952 in Big Spring, TX. The two created a life together full of love and family. He graduated from Dakota Wesley and taught in Spencer and Viborg, South Dakota. He then went on to teach and coach another 27 years in Minnesota, being a principal the last 23 years of his career. Al was a teacher and coach at Askov High School, and became a principal at Bruno Elementary and Askov High School. Al touched many of his students' lives with his positive attitude. He loved kids, especially the underdogs! Al loved and played most sports and coached basketball for many years. He owned horses and taught them tricks like teeter tottering and counting with their feet. Al brought them to the elementary school during his time as a principal at Bruno to put on a show for the kids. He always loved to golf and in his later years, golfed several times each day. Al won many tournaments and even hit a hole one! Al was requested to sing for President Truman's wife, Bess' birthday celebration while he was in high school. The First lady sent him a birthday card for the rest of her life. He will be remembered for many things, but especially his wonderful sense of humor and the way he loved to tease.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Imogene Burroughs; parents, Emmett and Viola; step-mother, Luella Burroughs; and brother, Emmet (Red) Burroughs.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Deborah (Ed) Burgeson of Sun City Center, Florida and Cathy (Eric) Edin of Moose Lake; grandchildren, Sarah (Stanley) Toe of Champlin, Leah Jarvis of Finlayson, Terry (Brianne) Johnsen of Askov, and Ginger (Greg) Klocke of Askov; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Payton Torres, Cole Jarvis, Laura, Ross, and Claire Johnsen, Alaina, Roman, Tifani, and Colton Klocke; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Burroughs of Flushing, MI.
