Alf Edwin "Ole" Skog, 80, of Sturgeon Lake, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home with family at his side. Alf was born in Windemere Township, Sturgeon Lake on December 3, 1930 to Herbert and Dagmar (Lidstrom) Skog. Alf was the fourth eldest of eight children.
Ole worked at the Moose Lake State Hospital as well as various jobs as roofing, carpentry and refrigeration. He served in the United States Army in Korea for two 1-year stints, from 1948-1949 and 1950-1951. Ole was a member of the American Legion Post #361 of Sturgeon Lake-Denham.
Ole was united in marriage to Patricia Mercer on November 8, 1952 in Kerrick.
Ole enjoyed going out to eat, going to the casino and especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his ealier years, Ole loved fishing, hunting and going on vacation.
Ole is preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell Skog; grandson, Jesse Skog; sister, Ruby Salmon; 4 brothers, Raymond, Mauritz, Marvin and Chester.
Ole is survived by his wife, Patricia Skog of Windemere Township; daughter, Lori (Fred) Gourley of Cloquet; 4 sons, Frank (Annette) of Stacy, Daniel (Kathy) of Pine City, Brett (Michelle) of Sturgeon Lake and Gary of Sturgeon Lake; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; sister, Judy (Bob) Eaton of Milry, AL; brother, Dennis (Jennine) of FL; his special dog, Zeke and three cats.
Visitation was Friday, March 25, 2011 from 10 AM until the 11 AM service in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Private inurnment will be in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Township.
