Alice M. Swensson

Alice M. Swensson, 88, Barnum, died peacefully Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Lighthouse Assisted Living, Barnum.  Alice was born on February 14, 1926 to Anthony and Alice Czaikowski in Lake Forest, Illinois where she grew up and attended school.  On November 18, 1944, Alice married Phillip Swensson in Great Lakes, Illinois.  She worked as in infant nurse in private homes and later for Illinois Gas & Electric before moving to Glen Lake, MN in 1948.  Alice worked at Billy Graham Evangelist Association as a supervisor of 2 departments from 1963 until 1970.  Alice mentored and was a loving mother figure to many local teens in the musical gospel teams "The Swenssonites" from 1963-1973 in Minnetonka and "The Come Together Kids" from 1974-1988 in Barnum.  Alice and Phil moved to Mahtowa in 1973.  Alice was the coordinator for the "Young At Hearts" from 1973 until 1993 serving area seniors in Mahtowa.  Alice was an excellent mother and pastor's wife who truly loved her family, parishioners, and community.  She enjoyed gardening, family pets, and singing in the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Alice; and a grandson: Jeffrey Bruce.

Alice will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Pastor Phillip Swensson; three children: Gregory (Cheri); Eric (Deb); and Mary Alice (Steve) Carlson; two brothers: Richard (Kathleen) Collins and Dennis (Dana) Fennelly; 5 Grandchildren: Kris, Charles, Allicen, Anna, and Andrea; 8 Great Grandchildren; Phoenix, Samantha, Vanessa, Liam, Rion, Allice, Alex, and Jonas; and many friends and relatives.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 6-8 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue from 10am until the 11 am service Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Barnum Community Methodist Church, Barnum.  Pastor Kendall Carlson and Pastor Noah Johnson will officiate.  Burial will be in Mount Salem Cemetery, Mahtowa.
