Obituary

Anna Walla Nelson, 92, Moose Lake, died peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2011 in Oakview Assisted Living, Moose Lake. She was born on March 5, 1919 in Horace, North Dakota to Ludvig and Anna Walla. She attended Fargo High School and then attained her B.A. Degree from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1940. On May 11, 1946, Anna married Clarence "Swede" Nelson in Duluth. Anna worked as a high school English teacher and Drama Teacher in Hendrum, MN and Vancouver, WA from 1940-1945. She came to Moose Lake in the fall of 1945 and taught for one school year before moving to Swatara, MN with her husband and started a family. She and her husband, Swede and their three children returned to Moose Lake in 1952. She resumed teaching in 1954 until she retired in 1975. In 1975, Anna and Swede moved to San Juan Capristano, CA where they lived until 1988 when they returned to Moose Lake. She loved reading, homemaking, flying, traveling, camping, and volunteering at Mercy Hospital. Anna also loved to walk and was well known for walking around town with her husband, Swede. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Retired Teachers Association, and the Moose Lake Historical Society.

Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Swede" Nelson on May 13, 2010.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Jan Beggs of Madera, CA; Tom (Sherry) Nelson of Anchorage, AK; and Bob Nelson of Anchorage, AK; 6 Grandchildren: Kristin Robson; Kathy Nye, Kari Beggs, David Sanders, Anna Nelson, and Lisa Nelson; 2 Great Grandchildren: Tyler Robson and
Nataly Nye; as well as Mustafa Akan, whom was once a foreign exchange student from Turkey and remained very close to Anna and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Family and Friends was held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from Noon until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Anna and Swede will be inurned together in Riverside Cemetery, Moose Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Moose Lake Historical Society or Hope Lutheran Church.
