Arthur "Gordy" Abrahamson
Arthur "Gordy" Abrahamson, 86, Rutledge, died peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born on December 17, 1925 in Rush City to Arthur and Eva Abrahamson. As a small child, Gordy moved with his parents to Rutledge where he was a lifelong resident. Gordy was an Army Veteran of WWII. On August 21, 1948, Gordy married Fran Katchmark in Sturgeon Lake. They lived in Rutledge where Gordy owned and operated Highway Garage which he took over from his father. Besides being a mechanic, Gordy owned and operated school busses and drove school bus for the Willow River School District for over 40 years. He loved to travel and sight see, especially with his wife Fran. Gordy also liked to deer hunt earlier in his life and later he loved taking drives every day to go look at deer. He also liked to bowl. Gordy was a member of the Willow River American Legion #163.
Gordy is preceded in death by his wife, Fran in 2010; 2 brothers-in-law: David Yepma and Ron Radzak; and a sister-in-law: Mary Lou Ketchmark.
He will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Gweyn (Charlie) Bonnin of Florida Keys; Jean (Jeff) Kiminski of Rutledge; and Garry (Barbara) Abrahamson of Rutledge; 7 Grandchildren: Pete, Rene, Lisa, Chad, Dawn, Matt, and Jenny; and 11 Great Grandchildren: Brittany, Dylan, Patrick, Ahna, Morgan, Madison, Jordan, Dawson, Ellie Jo, Michael, Brooklyn, and another Great Grandchild on the way;
2 sisters: Betty Yepma of Bloomington and Vivian Radzak of Moose Lake; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ray & Marion Katchmark of Minneapolis; Frank & Phyllis Ketchmark of Wahkon; Irene Berger of Willow River; Pat & Ron Prachar of Willow River; Butch & Pat Ketchmark of Garrison; Bob Ketchmark of Rutledge; Dale & Patty Ketchmark of Maple Grove; and Barb Larson of Sturgeon Lake; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 AM until 11 AM Memorial Service on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Father Eamonn Boland will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Willow River American Legion Post #163 and the Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361. Private Family inurnment will be held at a later date.
