Obituary

Arthur William Hill, 84, of Cromwell, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell.

Arthur was born May 21, 1942, in Kalevala Township, the second child of Emil and Tyyne Hill. He attended Cromwell High School, graduating in 1961. Arthur studied at the Dunwoody College of Technology for Electrical Construction and Brown's Institute, earning his qualifications to become a Master Electrician. Through years of dedication to his trade, he established Hill Electric, building a career centered on skill, craftsmanship, and hard work. He took great pride in his profession, wiring and servicing many homes and businesses throughout the area and leaving a lasting contribution to the community he loved. He was a member of IBEW Local 242- NECA out of Duluth, Minnesota for his entire career.

On July 31, 1960, Arthur married Carole Kingsley. Together they built a beautiful life, raised a family, and lived in Cromwell for most of their lives. They settled into a wonderful home near Arthur’s parents’ family homestead where he was born. Deeply invested in his community, Arthur served on the Cromwell School Board while his children attended school. He was also a devoted son; to care for his mother as she aged, he renovated an existing building on his property, the old family sauna, to comfortably accommodate her.

Throughout his life, Arthur embraced adventure and a deep love for the outdoors. He loved running and challenging himself physically, proudly participating in Grandma’s Marathons over the years. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings on Sundays whenever he could. Arthur loved road trips with his family, taking them on epic journeys across the United States and through the vastness of Canada to Alaska. Frequently traveled down to Australia to visit their daughter’s family along with Montana and Alaska to visit there son and daughter. His love for Alaska ran deep, and he ultimately lent his talents to help build the historic Alaskan Pipeline. Above all his faith was very important to him and carried him through every aspect of his life.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carole of Cromwell; his children, Dean of Rosebud, Montana, Tamera of Sydney, Australia, and Lisa of Fairbanks, Alaska; his grandchildren, Amanda McManis (Dan), Megan (Shaun) Meares, Jessica McManis, Geoffrey McManis (Lily), and Simon McManis (Ji Ye); and his great-grandson, Alexander Meares. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Johnson, and her family, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Tyyne; his son-in-law, Dr. Philip McManis; and many of his brothers, sisters, and their spouses.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Arthur on October 30, 2026, beginning with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, Minnesota. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon afterward.

Arthur and Carole are especially thankful for the love and support of their children over the years, with a special note of gratitude to their son, Dean, who traveled yearly to help them through the long Minnesota winters. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Villa Vista for their exceptional and compassionate care.
