Avis Leone Dennie

Avis L. Dennie, 95, Eveleth, formerly of Sturgeon Lake, died at St. Raphael's Health & Rehabilitation Center on Monday, November 9, 2009. Avis was born in Redstone, Montana on June 6, 1914 to Roy and Fannie (Thompson) Gilbert.

Avis attended school in Albert Lea, Minnesota graduating in 1933. She then worked as a waitress for several years before working for Gambles in Carlton, Minnesota. She worked 13 years for Wrenshall High School as a cafeteria cook. She married her first husband Harry Teigan in 1939 at Pine City, MN. In 1969, she married Lawrence S. Dennie at Willow River, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband: Harry Teigan, second husband: Lawrence Dennie, brothers: Russell Gilbert; Joseph Gilbert; Faye Gilbert; Roy Gilbert, Jr.; Sisters: Dorothy Anderson; Gladys Anderson; Lois Smith; and Joy Brown.

Avis is survived by sisters: Shirley Nyquist of Carlton, MN and Ruth Jacobson of Rutledge, MN. Step children: Eleanor Peterson of Mora, MN; James L. (Susan) Dennie of Wrenshall, MN; Janet Koski of Carlton, MN; Barnaby (Linda) Dennie of New Paris, Pennsylvania; Joseph W. (Nancy) Dennie of Tower, MN; and Mary Ellen Johnson of McGregor, MN and numerous nieces and nephews in addition to several grandchildren & great grandchildren.

A Gathering of Family and Friends was held from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Memorial Service on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Pastor Bob Simensen was the officiate. Music was provided by Lori and Brian Koski. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Sunset Cemetery in Moose Lake, MN.
