Barbara A. Killerud
BARBARA ANNE KILLERUD
Barbara, 78, of Willow River, passed away at home November 30, 2009. She was born in Minneapolis in 1931 to Earl and Irene Malbourn. She attended Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. She worked in several different hospitals across the country until she married Rolf Killerud, a Norwegian immigrant, in 1954. They settled down in St. Louis Park, MN, and raised 4 children, while she continued her nursing career in hospitals and nursing homes in Minneapolis. When she retired from nursing after 35 years, she and Rolf moved to their farm in Willow River. She loved the northland for both its hardships and its remote charms.
Barbara was a skilled cook, seamstress and tireless quilter. She made many beautiful quilts for family, friends, and for people she had never met, as gifts through the church and other charitable organizations. The beauty and warmth of her creations continue to comfort those of us fortunate enough to have recieved such a gift.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son Eric. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rolf; daughter Diana and son-in-law Michael Tongen of Holt, MI; sons Douglas and daughter-n-law Kimberly of Grand Junction, CO, and Scott and daughter-in-law Ellen of Willow River, MN; six grandchildren Christopher and Mark Tongen, Bjorn and Maia Killerud and Hanna and Kai Killerud.
A private memorial gathering will be held.
