Barbara Ann Nummela, age 71, resident of Barnum, MN died peacefully on Wednesday, June 19 ^th , 2019 after a courageous 4 year battle with PSP - Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She was born in Moose Lake, MN on March 19 ^th , 1948 to Raymond and Dorothy Bakka.

Barb attended school in Kettle River before graduating from Moose Lake High School in 1966, where she was honored to be nominated Homecoming Queen of her graduating class. Upon graduation, Barb moved to Duluth to attend college at U.M.D. Shortly thereafter, she moved back to Kettle River. Barb was soon charmed by the wit and humor of  Melvin Nummela, and they were married in Denham, MN on January 21 ^st , 1978 in the middle of a good old-fashioned Minnesota snow storm. Her career with Federated Co-ops lasted over 30 years. Barb enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family; especially the grandchildren. She was a four-wheeling enthusiast and was always proud when she was able to keep up with the boys. Barb moved to New Perspective Senior Living of Barnum in 2016. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman with a shy soul who was hard working, loving, and easy to love.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy; her husband, Melvin; and step-son, Timmy Nummela.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Miya (Bobby) Kohmetscher, Haley (Josh) Hammitt, and Nick (Maddi) Nummela; step-children, Randy (Pat) Nummela and Terry (Julie) Nummela; daughter-in-law, Kris Nummela; brother, Gary (Rae Ann) Bakka; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Barb's life will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 27 ^th , 2019 at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home in Moose Lake with a visitation occurring one hour prior. Jessica Moujouros will be the Funeral Celebrant. Burial will follow in West Branch Cemetery.
