Sobczak
September 21, 1936 – July 10, 2017
Barbara Ann Sobczak
Barbara Ann Sobczak, 80, Moose Lake, died peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, July 10, 2017 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born on September 21, 1936 in Moose Lake to Ernest and Ina Newbloom. Barbara grew up and attended school in Moose Lake. After graduating, she worked for Dr. Kolosky in Moose Lake. On July 12, 1958, Barbara married David Sobczak. Barbara pursued her passion for helping others by becoming a licensed practical nurse. While living in Duluth she worked for St. Louis County as a public health nurse for many years. She not only enjoyed being a caregiver in her profession as a LPN but also for her family. Barbara found great joy in helping her parents, siblings, especially when it came to spending time with her many nieces and nephews, and friends. She also enjoyed entertaining. Whether it was dinner for a group, a quick bite to eat for a visitor, or a late night snack no one ever left hungry. A few of her specialities included Swedish meatballs and pancakes. In 1981, Barbara welcomed a baby girl into her life, Abbey. She had no greater joy in her life than her relationship with Abbey. Abbey added to Barb's joy when she married Tim Nelson and went on to give her five grandchildren: Evan, Ayden, Nolan, Sophia, and Greyson. Barbara immensely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; and siblings: Marian Folsted, Bud Newbloom, Delores "Scotty" Jusczak, Shirley "Tinny" Lake, and Tom Newbloom.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Abbey (Tim) Nelson and their children of Sturgeon Lake; three sisters: Lorraine Brown of Moose Lake; Eleanor "Tootie" Dockal of Moose Lake; and Joyce "Dolly" Thomsen of Superior; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the 11 am service on Friday, July 14, 2017 in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 3 PM in West Side Cemetery, Kettle River.
