Bessie Smetak

Bessie Smetak, 91, Columbia Heights, entered into eternal rest at The Landmark Assisted Living Facility, Fridley, MN on Saturday, April 20, 2019.

Bessie was born on February 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Martin and Mary Smetak.  In 1929, the family moved to a farm in Bremen Twp. west of Willow River, MN.  After graduating from Willow River High School in 1947, she moved to Minneapolis, MN and attended cosmetology school.  She worked in the beauty salon at a large department store in downtown Minneapolis for a short time, then switched to doing assembly work at Northrup King, General Mills, and lastly at Unisys where she was employed for 36 years, retiring in 1992.

Bess loved old-time music, dancing, reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her family.  She also loved animals and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her special friend of 30 + years, Robert Graham; parents: Martin and Mary Smetak; sister: Emily Brandle; brother-in-law: Joseph Brandle; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Bess will be lovingly remembered by her three nieces: Judi Olson, Barb (Paul) Bona, and Sandie (Bruce) Resch; grand nephews: Ben (Jenn) Bona and their children: Henry and Lenora; Andy (Amber) Bona and children Caleb and Brooke, and Tim Bona and his son: Dexter.

In honor of Bessie's wishes, there will be no memorial service.
