BETTY JUNE
COUGHLIN
Jun 28, 1938 — Jun 18, 2026
Moose Lake
Betty June Coughlin, 87, Moose Lake, was reunited with her dear love, Maury, as she peacefully died on Thursday, June 18, 2026 in Moose Lake Village. She was born on June 28, 1938 in White Earth, MN to Laura and Cecil Cook, Sr. Betty grew up in Ogema, MN and attended Waubun High School where she graduated in 1956. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes and later at Northstar Dairy where she met the love of her life, Maury Coughlin. On January 17, 1958, Betty and Maury were married in Detroit Lakes. In 1967, they moved to Moose Lake. Betty was always active with children in her community. She worked as an assistant to Hope Lutheran Nursery School, operated a licensed day care in her home for over 25 years, and assisted with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. For many in Moose Lake, Betty was one of their first teachers outside the home and those tender young people experienced a caring and nurturing woman who instilled a love of learning and fun with lots of hugs. While raising her children, young people in the community always knew they were welcome at 320 Cedar and many times they gathered around the table sharing stories, troubles and joys, and seeking adult advice from Maury and Betty. They also immersed themselves in their community and supported, volunteered, and participated in many community endeavors. Betty was involved in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake Historical Society, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Mercy Foundation, Moose Lake American Legion Auxiliary, and many other community groups and programs. They were honored in 2016 as The Fourth of July Grand Marshalls for supporting the Moose Lake area and making it a better place to raise a family and live. Betty also was an avid sports fan from the MN Timberwolves and MN Lynx to local high school sports.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Maury in 2023. Father and mother: Cecil, Sr. and Laura Cook; brother: Cecil, Jr. (Betty) Cook; brother: Dick (Edith) Cook; sister: Carol Barker (John Kraker)(Tom Barker). Sister-in-law: Ann Glander; sister-in-law: Ruth (Larry) Engen.
