Billy James Hammitt, 45, of Duluth, died Saturday, July 11, 2020 in Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center. Billy was born December 3, 1974 to Alroy and Patsy (Kozlowski) Hammitt in Moose Lake.

Billy worked hard and played hard. He was a jack of all trades and a good inventor when a solution was necessary. He helped so many people with projects they needed done. Billy was always willing to help people in any way possible. He fixed and repaired many items for his mother, Patsy, always taking the time to stop by and see if she was okay or needed anything. Sometimes Billy would just stop by to "yak", which his mother always welcomed.

He lived in Bruno most of his life, but recently, Billy moved to Proctor to be closer to his job at KTM Paving Co. He loved rummage sales, rock and roll music… the louder the better and fishing during both the summer and winter seasons. Billy's favorite pastime was riding his "Harley". He had a great sense of humor and was always attentive to family and friends.

This past year was a real struggle for Billy with his cancer battle. He was a true fighter, and gave the disease all he had, but finally the cancer won.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alroy "Popeye" Hammitt.

Billy is survived by his Mother, Patsy; brother, Adam (Michele); sisters, Deb (Joe) Jensen, Gwen (Kevin) Ophus; nieces, Kaja and Skylar; great niece, Isla; and great nephew, "little Salem".

Billy's loud, crazy, laughing personality will be greatly missed by his entire family.

No services will be held at this time. A private family Inurnment will be held in the Bruno Cemetery.
