Borgny Calverley Agurkis
Borgny Calverley Agurkis, 95, Cloquet, formerly of Moose Lake and Mahtowa, was surrounded by her children whom loved her dearly as she died peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. She was born on January 29, 1923 near Bergen, Norway to Olai and Bergetta Underland. At 6 months old she came to Ellis Island and settled in Ellendale, MN with her family. On February 4, 1940, Borgny married John Calverley and to this union 9 children were born. They moved to Mahtowa in 1955 where they raised their family and had owned and operated the Mahtowa Market. Borgny also waitressed through the years. Borgny enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake, loved to travel, was an excellent cook and baker, and extremely hard working. She will be remembered by her children as a great Mom who always loved and was very proud of her children.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Calverley; second husband, Vincent Agurkis; three sons: John O. "Jerry" Calverley; Bruce Calverley, and Bob Calverley; and eight brothers; and sisters: Alfred, Olga, Einar, Elmer, Alice, Marvin, Olai, Jr., and Minda.
She will be lovingly remembered by her six children: Donald (Diane) Calverley of Cambridge; Judy (Ken) Olson of Carlton; Carol (Barry) Goodnature of Sturgeon Lake; Dale (Sue) Calverley of Mahtowa; Brian (Bonita) Calverley of Mahtowa; and Brenda (Bruce) Stevens of Barnum; daughter-in-law: Darla Calverley of Cloquet; 26 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; sister: Sonja Thompsen;; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Friday, March 9, 2018 in Salem Lutheran Church, Mahtowa and continue Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 10 am until the 11 am service in Salem Lutheran Church, Mahtowa. Spring Burial will be in Mount Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Mahtowa.
