Obituary

(Carl) Alan Lundgren was born November 13, 1947 in Stillwater Mn to Carl Albin and Anna (Brink) Lundgren. His first 6 years were spent in Marine on the St Croix. His parents died one year apart, and the children moved to Moose Lake to grow up with their Uncle and Aunt: Bertil and Ruth Brink. Al graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1965. He had several different jobs after, including construction, sales and insurance before deciding to move back home where he purchased a trucking cartage business in 1974. Al married Gail Olson in September 1976, they just celebrated their 47th anniversary. Al was a gregarious man, he loved meeting new people and just talking and laughing with others. He had a special lunch group in Sandstone during his truck driving years, the laughing and jokes flowed every day. In 1996, he retired from trucking and drove school bus for Moose Lake until 2014. This job gave him plenty of time to continue with coffee groups and more laughter in between bus routes. He loved motorcycling and he and Gail went on many motorcycle vacations over the years including Maine, Yellowstone, Banff, Colorado, Highway 1 from LA to Port Angeles WA and an ill-fated trip to Alaska. Al truly loved people, he had a great sense of humor and an unbelievable memory for jokes. Al was diagnosed with uveal melanoma in 2010, a diagnosis he accepted with grace and no self-pity. The cancer eventually had its way and spread to different organs. He was able to continue with an active life until the spring of 2023 when everything just became more difficult. He entered Hospice Care the end of May with St Croix Hospice and they were able to make him comfortable enough that he was able to continue to enjoy his breakfast/dice shaking group at Dave's, friends at the Rustic, afternoon coffee at McDonalds and most especially playing cards and having special dinners and bonfires! As September passed, it was increasingly obvious that his tired body could not go on. He passed away peacefully at home on September 29 in the presence of his wife Gail, niece Jamie, and his beloved dog Finn. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles and aunts, brothers: Donald, Alden and Bob; and sister: Betty. Survived and missed by wife, Gail; sister: Esther Lundgren; and an extended family of relatives and the very best friends anyone could have.

It was Al's wish to donate his body to the Mayo Clinic for research.

Friends and family are welcome to help celebrate Al's life on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 4-7 pm at the Soo Line Event Center in Moose Lake.  There will be no formal service but rather a time to gather and enjoy a few laughs just like Al would want it!  Please feel free to make a donation to your favorite charity or organization in Al's memory.
