Obituary

Carl Ferdinand Grangruth, 80, of Moose Lake, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 8, 2013 at his home. He was born April 22, 1932 in Baudette to Herman and Lydia (Johnson) Grangruth. Carl proudly served in the Army from March 1952 – March 1954 during the Korean Conflict. . Carl was united in marriage to Beatrice Brigan on February 2, 1985 in Cloquet. He was a life member of VFW Post #6206 of Menahga and VFW Post #3979 of Cloquet. Carl worked as a sandblaster and painter from coast to coast. He has worked in every state except Maine, Alaska and Hawaii. He retired from sandblasting in 1987 with Siliceous and obstructive lung disease from sand, paint, chemicals, lead paint, etc. In later years, he built two new houses, remodeled 5 houses and a 4 plex apartment building. Carl enjoyed working with wood and making furniture for his children and friends. In the winter months, Carl and Beatrice traveled to Arizona, California, Colorado and Florida. He loved deer hunting at his son's farm in Wadena with his children and grandchildren. Carl especially liked visiting with his family and friends, playing cards and camping at Sturgeon Lake.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erland, Armos, Clifford, Wilmar and Roger; sister, Virginia "Thelma" Warren.

Carl is survived by his wife of 28 years, Beatrice Grangruth of Moose Lake; Children, Carleen (Marty) Prachar of Palm Coast, FL, Rory (Michelle) Grangruth of Wadena, Kelly Grangruth of Mora, Lorne Grangruth of Panama City, FL, Linda Grangruth of Scanlon and Marleen (Paul) Dyrdahl of Oldham, SD; Step Sons, Steve Carlson and Brian (Kamee) Carlson both of Cloquet ; Step Daughters, Leona (Ron) Carlson of Cloquet and Sherry Carlson Grangruth of Paynesville; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Theresa (Kenneth) Hill of Menahga, Vida Lukkanen of Alexandria and Martha Nelson of Cloquet; brother, Bill (Janis) Grangruth of Cloquet; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Carl will be sadly missed as a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, (Papa) and friend by all who really knew him.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 12, from Noon until the 1 PM Service in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake.
