Caroline Rose Schatz passed away on Saturday, December 21 ^st , 2019 in Villa Vista Senior Living of Cromwell at the age of 83. She was born on November 20 ^th , 1936 in Kintyre, ND to Pius and Juliana (Schmidt) Reis, one of 12 children.

Caroline grew up on the family farm near Kintyre and attended a small country school until the 8 ^th grade. At age 18, she married Karl Schatz in St. Boniface Catholic Church of Kintyre on September 28 ^th , 1955. One of the many hobbies they shared was dancing. Karl and Caroline moved to Bismarck, ND in 1961, and made their forever home in Kettle River by the year 1964. Together, they farmed for many years while Caroline was a homemaker and mother to 8 children. She was always hard at work providing for her family by cooking, baking, and canning. Caroline was a volunteer at heart, devoted to the Red Hat Society, St. Ann's Guild at Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Mercy Auxiliary, and always had her eyes open for new potential blood donor recruits for the area's blood drives. Two ways she shared her generous heart the most was by offering rides to and from doctors' appointments to anybody who needed them, and picking fresh strawberries just to give them away to others. She was the outspoken, "tell-it-like-it-is" type, but kind-hearted and charitable like no other. Caroline loved to host and entertain and always exceeded expectations with her hospitality. She was a God-fearing woman whom cared deeply for her faith and her church.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Karl, in 2018; her son, Blaine Schatz; parents, Pius and Juliana; sisters, Helen (Pete) Wickenheiser, Teresa (Jack) Dutt, Clara Schweitzer, Magdalena Leier, and Eva (Tony) Huber; brothers, Sebastian Reis and Pius Reis, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Colleen Schatz; and sister-in-law, Rose Reis.

Her memory will be cherished by her children, Belinda Schatz, Dean Schatz, Don (Dawn) Schatz, DeAnn Schatz, Kenny (Dawn) Schatz, Kurt Schatz, and Kevin (Bobbi) Schatz; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Victor) Wald, Alvera (Tony) Leier, and Angie (Ed) Geiger; brother, Pete Reis; sister-in-law, Lorraine Reis; brothers-in-law, Johnny Schweitzer and Al Leier; daughter-in-law, Jodi Schatz; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation to honor Caroline's life will be held on Saturday, December 28 ^th , 2019 from 10am until the 11am Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church of Moose Lake. Father Solors will celebrate. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
