CATHERINE "CASSIE" CARLSON
Catherine "Cassie" Carlson, 94, of Baxter (formerly of Sandstone) passed away June 1, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth while surrounded by family.
Catherine was born in North Dakota on September 6, 1921. She was one of a set of twins born to Lillian and Patrick Costello. She grew up in the Barnum/Moose Lake area graduating from Barnum High School in 1939. She was employed at Sandstone Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years where she cared for others as a Nurses Aide. During her life, she was very involved with the activities of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was also active as a girl scout leader, a member of Sandstone St. Luke's Catholic Church and its Women's Guild, the Hinckley VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends.
Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Fred, six brothers and sisters, a daughter, Elizabeth Peterson; son-in-law, Richard Peterson; granddaughter Brenda Bougie; grandson Nicholas Carlson; and great great grandson Aden Johnson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Catherine (Alvin) Heittola of Brainerd; Fredrick Carlson Jr of Hinckley; Patricia Andrle of Mounds View; Kennard Carlson of Brainerd; Lennard (Jan) Carlson of Kasson; Craig Carlson of St. Cloud; Daniel (Ruth) Carlson of Red Banks, MS; Eugene (Peggy) Carlson of Brainerd; Sylvia (Mike) Keimel of Peoria, AZ; Sharon Carlson of Brainerd; Debra (Karl) Anderson of Union, WA; 22 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; sister Mary Dorothy McKinley of Tacoma, WA; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 4-6 pm with a Rosary Service at 6 pm in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Visitation will also be on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 10 am until 11 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
