MOOSE LAKE

Obituary

Cindy Lu Dockal, age 71, of Moose Lake, MN, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 9, 2026, at Moose Lake Village. She was born on October 6, 1955 in Duluth, Minnesota, to John and Eleanor (Newbloom) Dockal. Cindy moved from Minnesota to Ohio with her family as a child. As a young adult, she met and fell in love with Rick Brown, and together they welcomed their daughter, Heather. Years later, Cindy reconnected with and married her high school sweetheart, Gary Fenice, with whom she had two daughters, Veronica and Madeline. In 1991, the family relocated back to Moose Lake, where Cindy spent many wonderful years enjoying her family, gardening, cooking, and driving around on dirt roads shouting, "Garage Sale!" She was always on the hunt for unique pieces of Shawnee Corn Ware, Nemadji pottery, or one-of-a-kind handmade cabinets to display them all. She later returned to her roots in Ohio, thoroughly enjoying the warmer weather and more garage sales. Cindy loved to surround herself with framed photos of her family and friends on every available surface and continue traditions with her family and grandchildren of cookie decorating and holiday parties. Cindy found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandkids—teaching them how to bake or sew, encouraging their creativity, making her favorite homemade hot fudge, tending to her flowers, and listening to '50s and '60s rock and roll. She instinctively zoned every space, enriching various everyday nooks with warmth and care.

She is preceded in death by Gary Fenice; her parents: John and Eleanor Dockal; brother: Mark Dockal; and nephew: Karl Dockal.

Cindy’s caring spirit lives on through her family, including her daughters: Heather (Brodie) Tomczak, Veronica Fenice, and Madeline (Ross) Stewart; her cherished grandchildren: Ethan (Elly) Tomczak, Austin Tomczak, Logan (Maddie) Tomczak, Ava Beer, Ana Beer, Landin Kurhajetz (Emma Fjosne), and Frances Stewart; and her first great-grandchild: Lydia Kurhajetz, alongside an ever-growing circle of great-grandchildren who brought a special light to her days; her sisters: Candy Hoskins and Tammy Dockal; and many close friends, extended family and caretakers, both near and far, who had the joy of being a part of her life.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff, caretakers and friends who worked so tirelessly to support Cindy and provided such compassionate, exceptional comfort in her final days.
