Curtis Lee Cheney, 42, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. He was born on April 25, 1973 in Grand Rapids to Vernon O. and Sandra J. Cheney. Curt grew up in rural Barnum graduating from Cloquet Senior High School in 1995. He worked for Pinewood Inc. in Cloquet from 1993 until 2015. Curt enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics, fishing, camping, playing with his cards, listening and singing to his music and reading his magazines. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be lovingly remembered for his contagious smile, quick wit and his love for life. Curt was a light to all those who had the opportunity to meet him.
Curt is preceded in death by his grandparents: Arthur and Louise Fetters, and Oliver and Emogean Cheney, his uncle Kenneth True and his cousin Rodney True.
He is survived by his parents, Vernon and Sandra Cheney of Barnum. His sisters: Tammy Cheney of Barnum, Tricia (Kyle) Riel of Kettle River, Tresta (Wesley) Brown of Mahtomedi. His brothers: Christopher Fetters of Barnum and Christopher Lucket-Cheney of Cloquet and his special sister, Kasey Wynkoop of Barnum. Niece Jasmine Torgeson-Riel, Nephews: Devon Torgeson-Riel, Carter Riel, Jerrick Brown, Bryan Brown and Jason Fetters and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Sunday, August 16, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and will continue Monday, August 17, 2015 from Noon until the 1:00 PM Service in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake with Pastor Todd Van Zee officiating.
Pall Bearers will be Kyle Riel, Wesley Brown, Christopher Fetters, Dean Cheney, Devon Torgeson-Riel, Carter Riel, Sean Boor and George Giffen Honorary Pall Bearers will be Michael Cheney, Jeff Fetters, Mark Fetters, Allen Fetters, Brian Fetters, Michael True, Steven True and James True.
