January 20, 1940 – December 7, 2016
Curtis R. Gunderson, 76, of Duquette, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in Solvay Hospice House, Duluth. He was born January 20, 1940 in Duluth to John and Edna (Johnson) Gunderson. Curtis graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School and went on to attend the U of M. He served in the Army National Guard from 1962-1968. Curtis worked at Sears for 12 years and also sold real estate for a short time. He later worked at Harold's Clothing Store of Minneapolis for 7 years. Curtis was united in marriage to Julie Carlson on December 20, 1969 in Bloomington. Curtis and Julie moved to the Duquette area in 1984 and purchased the Duquette Store in October of that year. He and Julie also owned and operated Home in the Pines Bed and Breakfast. Curtis was also Kerrick Town Clerk. He enjoyed vintage vehicles, carpentry, listening to music, traveling (especially to New Orleans) and reading. He was a member of National Hot Rod Association, Minnesota Street Rod Association, Vintage Airstream Association, Regents Car Club and F100 Club.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Julie Gunderson of Duquette; son, Andrew (Jennifer) Gunderson of Duquette; daughter, Laura (Dave Watson) Gunderson of Burnsville; 2 grandchildren, Sophie and Audrey Gunderson; brother, Hartley Gunderson of Duluth; nieces and nephews, Megan (Ryan) Hammack, Brian (Sarah) Carlson, Anna Carlson and Luke Carlson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, from 11 AM until the 12 PM Service in Oak Lake Lutheran Church, Kerrick. Interment will be in Oak Lake Community Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Oak Lake Lutheran Church or Bruno Food Shelf.
