Daniel Paul Holte

Daniel Paul Holte, 80, of Sturgeon Lake, MN, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, MN, on Thursday, March 8, 2018. He was born on July 25, 1937 in Duluth, MN.

Growing up on a farm on Decker Road in Duluth, he graduated from Denfeld High School in 1956. He proudly served in the United State Marine Corp starting in April of 1957 for three years, active duty.

He married his junior high crush, Darlene Mae Aho, in 1960. He worked for 7UP Bottling Company, NCR and Bankers Plus. At age 49 he started his own business, Bank Systems Marketing, Inc.

Daniel and Darlene raised eight children in Duluth, Chisholm, Hibbing and Deephaven, MN and Waterloo, IA. When Daniel retired in January of 2000, they moved to Sturgeon Lake, MN.

Daniel was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved fishing Minnesota lakes, Lake Michigan and the Gulf of Mexico. He was passionate about traveling and enjoyed many road trips with Darlene and his beloved dogs in their RV.

Daniel confessed faith in Jesus Christ at age 14 while attending the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle. He sustained a life-long faith in God and considered his faith his greatest asset.

He is survived by wife, Darlene Holte; sons Alan (Michelle) Holte and Devin (Tracee) Holte; daughters Deborah (Michael) Franke, Eilene (Keith) Johnson, Janelle Holte, Danette (Edward) Isaacs, Darla (Jeffrey) Swanson and Kristen (Anthony) Bibeau; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister Janis Holte (Tom) Pavlatos; brother Allen (MaryAnn) Holte; sisters-in-law Barbara Holte, Mary Holte and Dorothy Lautiainen; brother-in-law Karl (Alene) Aho and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Melvin and Esther Holte; brothers Robert Holte and Ronald Holte; Sister Carol Berg; brothers-in-law Warren Berg, Adi Lautiainen, Gordon Oie, Roy LeMier; sisters-in-law Gladys LeMier and Irene Oie and other family members and close friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 10 until the 11 AM service in Barnum Community Church.  Memorials may be made to the Barnum Community Church to be used for the Wednesday Community Meals and Pioneer Youth Club.  Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown.
