Obituary

Daniel J. Korhonen, 92, lifelong resident of Kettle River, died peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2025 in Barnes Care, Esko.  He was born on December 16, 1932 in Moose Lake to Edward and Ellen Korhonen.  Dan attended school in Kettle River though the 8th grade and then attended Moose Lake High School for grades 9-12 and also played hockey.  He went to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for two years.  Dan served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956.  He returned home and worked for Diamond Match for a few years.  On April 13, 1963, Dan married Iva Buck in Moose Lake.  They lived in Kettle River and Dan worked at Roos Motors as an automotive technician from 1960 until 1997.  He liked raising cattle, snowmobiling, bowling, woodworking, and gardening.  Dan was in bowling leagues from 1960 until 2016.  He always looked forward to the Friday Morning Breakfast Club so he could visit with friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Iva Korhonen in 2009; parents: Edward and Ellen Korhonen; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Emma and Richard Silampa and Mae and Bud Vrana; a brother: John Korhonen; and best friend: Shirley Carroll.

Dan is survived by two sons: Steven Korhonen and Paul (Ann) Korhonen; 3 grandchildren: Joseph (Amanda) Korhonen; Melissa (Dave Plowman) Korhonen; and Zakary Korhonen; several great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Virginia Korhonen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

At Dan's wishes, there will be no services.  Private family inurnment will be in Leonard Cemetery, Kalevala Twp., Carlton County.
