Obituary

Darrell A. Degerstrom

Darrell A. Degerstrom, 73, Moose Lake, died suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from natural causes while at his farm which he greatly enjoyed.

He was born on October 9, 1944 in Moose Lake to William and Clara Degerstrom.  Darrell grew up in Askov where he attended the Jackson Grade School and later Askov High School graduating in 1962.  He worked briefly in Minneapolis and Elgin, IL before returning back to the area.  Darrell began his career at the Moose Lake State Hospital in 1963 as an activities director. He then transitioned to social work until it closed in 1995.  He continued his career as a social worker at Bridge House in Duluth until retiring in 2007.  Throughout the years, Darrell farmed beef cattle and raised quarter horses.  He loved being outside especially on his tractor or making hay.  He was a very dedicated man to not only his family but also had a great love for God. Darrell will be remembered as the guy that would do anything for anyone and also being a tremendous caretaker for his wife, Ginny.  His dry sense of humor was very funny and he captured many life memories in pictures and narrated videos.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Benton Degerstrom; a brother: Carl Degerstrom; and a sister: Ruth Aho.

Darrell will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years: Virginia "Ginny"; three sons: Thomas (Terry) Degerstrom of Cotati, CA; Ryan (Letty) Degerstrom of Ashland, WI; and Sean (Amy) Degerstrom of St. Cloud; 10 grandchildren: Ross, Jesse, ZhaoBing, Elise, Tyson, Brooklynne, Christian, Zoey, and Maxwell;  2 siblings: Marlyn (Linda) Degerstrom of Askov and Clarice (Bernie) Loew of Askov; sisters-in-law: Dolly Edquist of Foxboro, WI and Ethel Azevedo of Las Vegas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 1 PM until the 2 PM Memorial Service on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in Church of Victory, Askov.
