Obituary

Dave Fahland

8-19-1953 to 11-28-2025

Preceded in death by Parents Audrey (Peterson) Fahland and James Fahland

Survived by wife, Kerin Fahland; sons: Daniel (Michelle), Eric (Cynthia), Ryan (Jenna); Siblings: Bruce Fahland (Nghiep Lu), Diane (John) Bona; Grandchildren: Ashley Crocket (Jake), Calley (Severson) Nygaard (Alex), Courtney Fahland, Kelsy Fahland (Ben), Alicia Fahland (Joel), Justin Fahland (Kayla) and Abbie Fahland; Great Grandchildren: Caleb, Gracie, Brady, and Colson.

Dave was born and raised in St. Paul, MN, spending his days working at his grandfather's Lucky Strike campground in Webster, WI as the groundskeeper, fish cleaner, and general gopher. Dave loved to waterski and would often be found teaching resort guests how to water ski.

In 1972, Dave married Mary Rosenthal and soon bought his first home in New Brighten, MN where they raised three sons - Dan, Eric and Ryan.  Dave worked at Vincent Metals in Minneapolis, MN at the same time he worked as a Ramsey County Deputy in their Water Patrol Division.

In 1985, Dave began his lifelong career with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office - for the next 33 years developed many decades-long friendships and gained the respect of many staff who worked for and with him before retiring as a Sergeant in 2008.

Dave passed his strong work ethic, the love of outdoor activities: (hunting, fishing and boating), and a great sense of humor (which sometime would be most inappropriate) to his boys.

In 1980 Dave and his family moved to Coon Rapids, MN.

In 1995 Dave married Kerin Fahland and lived for some time in Coon Rapids, MN before building a new house on his property in Moose Lake, MN where he eventually retired to enjoy many of his favorite outdoor activities.  His favorite annual tradition was hosting deer camp with his boys and his best friends Tom Pangerl, Scott Milczark and Jim Fetters as well as many others.  Dave knew so many community members in Moose Lake area who he considered family.  He also loved what he called "Bad Friday" where he and his cherished friend Scott would be as "bad as they wanted to be" every week while drinking a few beers and wearing their Bad Friday T-Shirts made for the occasion.

In 2021, Dave and Kerin had enough of the MN weather and politics, so they moved to the warm climate and culture of Harlingen, Texas where they enjoyed day trips to Mexico, going to local honky-tonks singing to karaoke, enjoying the local food and culture, and enjoying their new community of friends.  Dave was the President of their homeowner's association and was very respected and effective at this volunteer position.

In 2025, Dave sadly lost his 30-year battle with Leukemia. During this time, he endured many painful treatments, surgeries, and many related serious health issues and cancers that all culminated in a bone marrow transplant which was 100% effective and gave him and his family and friends another 5 years to enjoy life together.  Dave's friends and family are eternally grateful to his brother Bruce for his marrow donation.

A private service was held on November 28, 2025 to celebrate his life.
