DENNIS JAY HURST
Dennis Jay Hurst, 63, of Barnum, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 in Solvay Hospice House, Duluth.
He was born August 25, 1949 in Moose Lake to John and Alice (Goewey) Hurst. Denny graduated from Barnum High School in 1967. Dennis was united in marriage to Faye Korpela on October 26, 1968 in Rockford, IL. He attended the Duluth Vocational School and worked as a draftsman at Control Data Corp. Denny then worked construction for many years as a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He was a member of the Operating Engineers-Local #49. Denny was also a member of the Barnum Fire Department for 20 years and Fire Chief for many of those years. He served on the Barnum City Council. Denny loved spending time with his family, being at the lake where he built his dream home, hunting, and fishing. He also loved to travel to the southwest and northwest. Denny loved building and took great pride in building houses for his family.
Denny is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, David Hurst.
Denny is survived by his wife, Faye Hurst; children, Dawn Valure, Corey Hurst, David (Shanny) Hurst and Casey (Brian) Johnson; grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Valure, Blaze, Brock, Mia and Cruz Hurst; 3 sisters, Sandy (Howard) Wilkes, Jackie (Gary) Rautio and Wendy Runstrom; step-father, Don Harrington.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, July 30, from 2 PM until the 4 PM Memorial Service in Barnum Community United Methodist Church, Barnum. A contribution will be made in memory of Denny to the Solvay Hospice House-Miller Dwan Foundation.
