Derek Grant Fogt, 73, Askov, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. He was born on November 29, 1949, to Arlis and Hjordis Fogt at home in Askov. Derek graduated from Askov High School in 1967. He briefly attended Rocky Mountain College to play sports but eventually found his calling in the construction industry. On February 14, 1970, Derek married Lorelei Newman in Askov. Derek drove semi and worked as a carpenter for a few years until he joined his Dad at Johnson Brothers Corporation in Duluth. He began his career with Johnson Brothers as a laborer, and at the end of his 40 plus career, retired as Executive Vice President. Derek's career had him working in several areas of the United States and Saudi Arabia. He was hard working, quick-witted, and extremely intelligent when it came to engineering projects. Derek liked to hunt, snowmobile, play softball for Ringers, and shoot trap. He also enjoyed carpentry and sawyer projects; he always had a plan drawn up, including breadboards, a hutch, beds for his grandkids, or sheds. His greatest love was his children and grandchildren whom he was immensely proud of for their accomplishments.
