Diane L.
Jacobson
January 20, 1943 – December 26, 2021
Diane L. Jacobson died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at her home in Sturgeon Lake, finishing a life well lived for nearly 79 years. She loved and was committed to God, her family, her community, her love for music including a special talent for Christian vocals and keyboards.
Diane was born in Moose Lake on Jan. 20, 1943 to Harold and Myrtle Nelson and grew up on the family farm in rural Sturgeon Lake. She attended Sturgeon Lake Elementary and graduated from Willow River High School at the top of her class in 1961.
Her early and mid-adult years spent as a dedicated wife and mother of twin boys, she helped family members whenever and wherever work was needed. Diane volunteered to serve her community and willingly shared her beautiful voice with solos at many, many area weddings and funerals. She began her service to Faith Lutheran Church in 1972. Her special brand of dedication is evidenced by 49 continuous years of service, playing the organ every Sunday and every special occasion, right up until five weeks before her death.
Diane was employed at Dept. of Corrections-Willow River and FCI Sandstone where she was respected and appreciated for her precision and diligence. She also volunteered her skills on the Sturgeon Lake City Council, and served as treasurer of the Blomskog Cemetery Association and NE MN ELCA Women's Board.
She was a lifelong witness to the grace and love of God. Although soft-spoken, she was unapologetic in standing up for her beliefs. Her love of extended family, willingness to make time for others sharing her talents will long be remembered. Her love for and encouragement of her sons cannot be overstated.
Diane's last 24 years were enjoyed with her partner, Jon Nystrom. Their common interests and thoughtful dispositions fit together. They enjoyed outdoor activities including snowmobiling until recently. They enjoyed dinner parties and frequent family gatherings.
Her family is especially grateful for the uncommon, extensive comfort and care provided by special friends Mary and Russ Jacobson.
The excellent life of Diane was made of skills and talents well used and her undying compassion for family and friends.
She survived by sons Ronald and Richard Jacobson, Sturgeon Lake; brother Donald (Karen) Nelson, Sturgeon Lake, sister-in-law Beverly Nelson, Sturgeon Lake; partner Jon Nystrom, Sturgeon Lake; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Diane was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Myrtle Nelson, twin brother Dale Nelson and brother James Nelson.
