GEORGE DONALD "DON" GAMST

George Donald "Don" Gamst, 89, died on June 10, 2014 in Apache Junction, AZ. He was born to George and Zita Gamst in St. Paul on February 9, 1925. He grew up in St. Paul and joined the Marines upon graduation at the age of 17. He served during World War II and fought in the Pacific. He was married to Virginia Roedler and they had 12 children. He worked on the railroad, as a carpenter, and owned several restaurants. His career was as a public adjuster. He owned Gamst and Associates in Duluth for over 30 years. Don enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, cooking, and was immensely proud of his large family and the lives they made for themselves. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his honesty, and his meticulous manner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Gene Gamst and sister: Rita Potter, his son: John Gamst, daughter-in-law: Diane Gamst, daughter: Annie Duren, grandsons: John Jr. and Michael Gamst.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 24 years, Elaine; his children: Donna Goff; Greg (Vicki) Gamst; Teri (Jerry) Hedican; Gil (Candice); Rene (Steve Richardson) Gamst; Bernie (Deb); Chris (Dawn Mankoski); Celeste (Charlie) Thiemi; Marge (Jim) Stanley; Roni (John) O'Doherty; and son-in-law: Greg Duren; 28 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; Step-children: Bruce (Kelly Quirk) Lohman; Linda (Chris) Klinski; Brian (Gina Tomlison)Lohman; Brad (Kari) Lohman; 4 step-grandchildren; and his dog, Dolly.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Mass on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Holy Angel Catholic Church in Moose Lake, MN. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church social hall. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Moose Lake American Legion.
