Donald E. Benrud, 81, of Moose Lake, passed away after he battled three years of cancer on Friday, July 22, 2016 in Moose Lake. He achieved his desire of being able to live his final days with his wife and the things he loved at home. He was born October 17, 1934 in Monroe County, WI to Martin and Sophie (Anderson) Benrud. Donald was united in marriage to Janice Hovland on June 18, 1960 in Rothsay. Donald worked for 35 years with the United States Department of Agriculture as a Resource Conservationist until retiring on December 31, 1989. Donald was a very active member of Hope Lutheran Church, Chairman of Lakes State Federal Credit Union for 10 years, a member of the Moose Lake Coop Board, Chairman of Carlton County Technical Action, past President of Soil Conservation Society of America, and was a member of Moose Lake Kiwanis for 40 years. Donald enjoyed farming, wildlife, hunting, traveling to Europe and Scandinavia and spending time at the cabin in western Minnesota with family and was especially fond of his beloved dog, Arrow.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, James Benrud; 1 sister, Martha Moore.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janice Benrud; daughters, Mary Benrud and Ann Benrud; son, David Benrud and his partner, Gregory Foster; grandchildren, Elijah (Marjorie) Renn, Maya Kasangaki, Saman Bemel-Benrud, Yarrow Benrud, Sophia Benrud, Cameron Phillips, Taos Wanza and Grace Wanza; great grandchildren, Brenden Renn, Layla Kasangaki and Bianka Renn.

Visitation will be Friday, July 29, from 1 PM until the 2 PM Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake.
