Obituary

Dorothy Marie Armstrong, 101, of Moose Lake, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Augustana Health Care Center of Minneapolis.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Todd Van Zee will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Kerrick Township.

Dorothy was born on October 27, 1910 to Hilfred and Anna (Peterson) Berglund on the homestead in Bruno Township, Pine County where she grew up and attended Pleasant Hill Grade School. Dorothy later attended Superior Central High School and Superior State Teacher's College.
Dorothy taught elementary students in Bruno from 1930-1940 and taught in several other districts from 1940-1946. From 1953-1973 she taught in Kerrick, Moose Lake and two years in Los Banos, CA. On July 6, 1946, Dorothy married Leslie Armstrong in Kerrick. Dorothy and Les farmed and raised their family on the Armstrong farm in Kerrick Township. In 1964 Dorothy received her Bachelor of Science degree from UMD and the family moved from the farm to Moose Lake.
Dorothy enjoyed a rich musical heritage in her home. She shared her music with her church families, playing the piano, singing with her husband and children, or directing choirs at the Kerrick Presbyterian and Moose Lake Covenant churches. Dorothy was a member of the Moose Lake Covenant Church. After retiring from her teaching career, Dorothy became a member of the Carlton County Retired Educators. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, teacher and friend. She was a faithful servant of the Lord, her church and her community.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie in 1980; her parents; and siblings: Adrian (Elizabeth) Berglund, Thekla (George) Rydberg, Ruth Berglund, Eva (Dean) Bengtson, Robert (Edna) Berglund and infant granddaughter: Jennifer Dawn Carlton.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Larry (Linda) Armstrong of Minneapolis; Vivian (Dennis) Hachfeld of Faribault; and Janice (Ronald) Carlton of Santa Cruz, CA; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Roland Wickstrom of Duluth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy exemplified the verse from Philippians 1:21- "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain".
