Obituary

Duane William Cisar, 84, of Sturgeon Lake, peacefully left our earthly world on Thursday, April 20, 2023 to be with his cherished wife in heaven. He was born on May 27, 1938 in Denham to Frank and Georgiann Cisar. Duane grew up on the rockiest piece of farmland in Birch Creek Township. There he attended a one-room school house and later attended school in Willow River. Duane worked the farm and hauled milk for area farmers with his dad. On September 6, 1958, Duane married the love of his life, Pauline Kiminski in St. Isidore's Catholic Church. They lived in West Duluth for a short time and Duane worked at the Horse Slaughter Plant in Duluth and Brenny Dahl Block Company in Cloquet. They later moved to Denham and Duane got his own truck and route and continued to haul milk seven days a week for 14 years. They bought a small unfinished house in Denham and Duane added on, turning it into the family home with his own hands. All while working his full time job, running the beef farm, maintaining a lake lot, and raising a family. In 1973, Duane began his career with the Soo Line Railroad until he retired in 1991. He was a hard worker throughout his life and truly loved running the family farm, as well as logging and making firewood. Duane also greatly enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and attending mass every week. He almost never missed a birthday party, school sporting event, band concert, play or graduation for his children and grandchildren. Among his favorite things to do was traveling with Pauline in his retirement years. Together they explored the country from coast to coast and to Alaska and back. Every trip brought a new truckload of rocks, a new photo album and countless memories. In 2017, Duane and Pauline moved into their newly built home on Lake Twelve in Windemere Township. There they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Duane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pauline in 2018; parents: Frank and Georgiann; granddaughter: Kelli Berryman; and siblings: Donald Cisar, Shirley Kiminski, Robert Cisar, and Kenneth Cisar.

Duane will be lovingly remembered by 5 children: Donna Berryman; Rick (Karen) Cisar; Denise (Dale) Bergquist; Duane "Tom" Cisar; and Brian (Elizabeth) Cisar; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Donna Mae Sheforgen and Sandra (Duane) Olson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
