Duane Rodney
Lund
February 3, 1938 – November 24, 2020
Duane Rodney Lund, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in the Augustana Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born on February 3rd, 1938 in Moose Lake, MN to Alf and Signe Lund. He grew up on his family's farm in Duquette and helped run the tavern after his father's passing. During his young adult years, Duane worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and joined the Air National Guard. Later, he worked for Northwest Airlines as a mechanic for over thirty years until retirement. Duane married Beverly Bryant in 1965 and had three sons: Rodney, Darren, and Christopher.
Duane loved the outdoors. He volunteered countless hours for the Minnesota Conservation Federation, National Wildlife Federation, and at the Dodge Nature Center where he discovered how important bees were to the environment and he started his own colonies in Rutledge, MN. Each fall, Duane's family enjoyed fresh honey from the hives and they also helped Duane plant thousands of pine trees that provided much needed habitats for wildlife in the area.
Duane also took time to go fishing with his family. Whether it was on the Kettle River, Canadian waters, or deep sea fishing off the coast of Oregon, good times were had by all as fishing stories grew taller over the years.
In the late nineties, Duane designed and built his dream, log home. There he was able to connect with his love for the outdoors, friends, and family from northern Minnesota.
Duane always had a heart for polka music and dancing. During his later years, he learned how to play the concertina and enjoyed touring with the Czech Area Concertina Club of New Prague, MN.
Duane was preceded in death by wife Beverly; parents Alf and Signe Lund, brother Marlin and sister Laurice Prewett. Survived by; children Rodney (Tami), Darren (Julie), Christopher (Korena); sister Diane (Ted) Plunkett; grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Hannah, Tyler, Rachael, and Laurel; sister-in-law: Karen Lund; and dear friend Venice Cluett.
