Eleanor Emelia Gockowski

Eleanor Emelia Gockowski, 95, Sturgeon Lake, died peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017.  She was born on March 1, 1921 near Dickinson, ND to Joseph and Julianna Froehlich.  Eleanor attended Gladstone High School in North Dakota graduating in 1938.  She moved to St. Paul to take care of her aunt after high school.  On September 14, 1940, Eleanor married Leonard Gockowski, Sr. in St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Sturgeon Lake.  They dairy farmed through the years in Windemere Twp.  In 1965, Eleanor began working at the Moose Lake State Hospital where she worked as an LPN until retiring in 1983.  She later lived in Minneapolis where she was a nanny for the Appleman family for over 11 years.  In 1993 she moved back to Sturgeon Lake.  She loved gardening, feeding her birds, reading, playing solitaire, writing stories, singing and playing the piano, harmonica and guitar.  Eleanor truly loved and adored babies and kids.  She also liked cooking her Sunday dinners for which many will remember.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, Sr. in 1980; son: Kenneth; 3 grandsons: Matthew Krogh, James Paden, Jr., and Jared Jurek; 5 great grandchildren: William Paden, Jr., Jackson Zuk, and Layla, Leighton, and Luca Eiynck; seven brothers; and five sisters.

She will be lovingly remembered by her seven children: Marie (Buzz) Arndt of Brooklyn Park; Diane Wilson of Forest Lake; Leona (Richard) Jurek of Wyoming; Luella Krogh of Minneapolis; Sharon (Robert) Granda of New Hope; Leonard Gockowski, Jr. of Willow River; and Gina (James) Granda of Brooklyn Center; 24 Grandchildren; 28 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 3, 2017 in St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Sturgeon Lake.  Burial will be in St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery, Sturgeon Lake.
