Elizabeth M. Grochowski, 98, Finlayson, died Friday, June 1, 2018 in Sandstone Health Care Center, Sandstone. She was born on February 11, 1920 in Hammond, IN to Roscoe and Maizie Davison. Elizabeth grew up on the South Side in Chicago. At age 14, she moved to St. Paul where she attended Washington High School. She worked for American Linen. On July 31, 1947, Elizabeth married Joseph F. Grochowski in St. Paul. They lived on the Eastside of St. Paul where she was a homemaker through the years and later worked at St. John's Hospital in St. Paul, which she truly loved. Elizabeth lived in Hugo from 2001 until 2014 when she moved to Finlayson. She had a good full life and was very active. Elizabeth enjoyed coffee with her friends and had a great love for animals. She was extremely proud of raising her grandson through the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1986; three sisters: Blanche, Sydna, and Hazel; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and her beloved dog, Chelsey.
Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Elizabeth Grochowski of St. Paul; Delores Giannoni of Soudan; and Kathleen Grochowski of Isle; grandson: Joseph (Angela) Grochowski of Finlayson; two great grandkids: Isaac and Lucille; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 2 PM in Church of The Assumption, 51 West 7th St, St. Paul. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11:15 AM in Assembly Area #4.
