Elvera Lucille Modrow, 88, of Willow River, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born October 16, 1921 in Oak Park to Chester and Mabel (Lundstrom) Swanson. Elvera was baptized and confirmed at Oak Park Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Elvera was united in marriage to Albert Herman Modrow on October 15, 1940 in Mora. She and Albert lived in McGrath for several years where they farmed. They moved to Willow River in 1953. Elvera was employed at General Andrews Nursery of Willow River for 38 years. She also worked in the kitchen at Mercy Hospital. Elvera was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Willow River as well as Ladies Aid and Stitch and Chatter Quilters. She was also a member of Willow River Community Club and Arthyde Community Club. Elvera enjoyed quilting, baking, embroidery, traveling and canning.
Elvera is preceded in death by her husband Albert; her parents; son, Vernon; brother, Kenneth Swanson; daughter-in-law, Janice Modrow; sister-in-law, Alice Modrow; brother-in-law, Clinton Swanson.
Elvera is survived by 1 son, Donald Modrow of Bovey; 1 daughter, June (James) Krogstad of North Branch; 1 sister, Elaine Swanson of Millaca; 1 brother, Gerald (Nancy) Swanson of Merrifield; daughter-in-law, Della Modrow of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Esther Swanson of Tustin, CA; grandchildren, Betty Ann (Terrance Pekas) Klier of St. Cloud, Dean Krogstad of North Branch, Dwayne Krogstad of Willmar, Darin Krogstad of Willow River, Derek (Korine) Krogstad of Willow River; Trudy (John) Madoll of Grand Rapids, Mary Jane Cloutier of Minneapolis, Cat (Steve) Donat of Bemidji, JoAnna (Chad) Myhrer of Bemidji and Courtney (Chris) Collison of Bemidji; great grandchildren, Sarah Klier, Lydia, Peter and Sonny Cloutier, Skyler Krogstad, Tyler Krogstad, John Madoll, Max Madoll, Andrea Donat, Erin Myhrer, Donald James Madoll and Abby Myhrer; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Thursday, December 3, 2009 from 5-7 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and will continue Friday, December 4, from 10 AM until the 11AM service in First United Presbyterian Church, Willow River.
