Obituary

Emily Brandle, 94, Willow River, entered into eternal rest while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Golden Horizon's Assisted Living in Sandstone.

Emily was born on June 22, 1924 in  Chicago, Illinois to Martin and Mary Smetak.  In the summer of 1929, the family moved to a farm west of Willow River where Emily attended Willow River High School graduating in 1942.  Following school, Emily returned to Chicago to work while living with her auntie and uncle.  She later returned to Willow River where she met the love of her life.  On May 5, 1945, Emily married Joseph Brandle in Moose Lake.  To this union, three daughters were born.  Emily and Joe were Grade A dairy farmers in Bremen Twp. for most of their life.  In 1972, they sold their large dairy farm and moved onto Emily's homeplace where she grew up.  They continued to milk cows and in their later years changed over to beef cattle.

Emily was a dear sweet woman whom was loved by all and she returned that love to her family and their friends.  She found great joy in flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting afghans, doilies, and dolls and creating beautiful quilts which she shared with her family and donated to a Children's Home.  Emily also liked to play cards, scrabble, and other board games which she frequently won!  She was an avid reader, an excellent baker and cook, and truly loved farming.

Emily made the decision to follow Jesus on September 2001.  In November 2001, her son-in-law baptized her with her immediate family present.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1996; her parents: Martin and Mary Smetak; and numerous aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; cousins, friends, and special pets.

She will be lovingly remembered her by three daughters: Judi Olson, Barb (Paul) Bona, and Sandie (Bruce) Resch; three grandsons: Ben (Jenn) Bona, Andy (Amber) Bona, and Tim Bona; five great grandchildren: Henry, Lenora, Caleb, Brooke, and Dexter; her sister: Bess Smetak; her sister-in-law: Doris Brandle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

According to Emily's wishes, there will be no services.  Her immediate family gathered for a private inurnment at Sunnyside Cemetery, Willow River.
