Ernest R. Holmstrom, 91, Moose Lake, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in Oakview Assisted Living, Moose Lake. He was born on May 14, 1930 in Ludden, ND and was one of 12 children born to Elmer and Hannah Holmstrom. He grew up in North Dakota and later moved to MN where he worked. In 1948, Ernie entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country until 1950. He married his first wife Ruby in the 1950's. Ernie worked for American Cyanamid Company from 1957 until 1978 and had lived in Cloquet; Esko; Escanaba, MI; and Panora, IA during his career with the company. In 1986, Ruby died. Ernie moved back to Moose Lake and married Norma Huhta on November 1, 1986. They lived on Sand Lake until 1999 when they moved to their home they built in Moose Lake. Ernie was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake; Moose Lake Golf Club; Finnish American Historical Society; Rice River Seniors; and the Mason's including Solomon's Lodge #286, Scottish Rite, and AAD Temple Shrine. Over the years, Ernie loved golfing, fishing, gardening, bowling, and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Hannah Holmstrom; first wife: Ruby; and 11 siblings: Nelma Holmstrom; Eino Holmstrom; Ina Holmstrom; Wayne Holmstrom; Lillian Bleibaum; Ginger Holmstrom; Diane Boynton; Wilma Karolewski; Helen Bodie; May Holmstrom; and Fred Holmstrom.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Norma; 3 children: Leo Huhta and his wife, Connie O'Day; Lisa Coil and her husband, Duane; and Lyle Huhta; 7 grandchildren: Brittany Wacker, Evan Coil, Darrin Coil, Jordan Coil, Bethany Bloom, Kathryn Mourn, and Ian Coil; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Mason Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 4, 2021 in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake followed by a visitation from 11:30 until the 1 pm Memorial Service at Hope Lutheran Church. Lunch will follow the memorial service in the church social hall. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church or a charity of your choosing in Ernie's memory.
