Ervin Carl Dahlen, 97, of Sturgeon Lake passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born July 14, 1927, to Carl and Alma (Johnson) Dahlen on the farm.
In 1896 Ervin's grandfather, Charles Dahlen came to Sturgeon Lake in covered wagon with his sons, Oscar and Ervin's father Carl. They came from a small Swedish community near Rock Island, Illinois, Andiluscha. They homesteaded property from the railroad where they built a log cabin. The next spring Ervin's grandmother, Belle Dahlen made the trip from Illinois to this new homestead in the woods.
Carl married Alma Johnson in 1916 and they took over the Dahlen Farm. They built a dairy barn in 1918 which burned in 1956. In 1920 they built the family home where Ervin was born, raised, and resided until his passing. Ervin married his wife Dolores Mae MacDonald in 1949 after serving his country in WWII in the Navy. Ervin was a farmer all his life as well as milk hauler from the Moose Lake creamery and a construction truck driver.
Dolores preceded her husband in death in May of 2011.
He is survived by his 6 children, Gary (Cynthia) Dahlen of Sturgeon lake, Joanne (Richard) Searl of Litchfield, James Dahlen of Sandstone, Sandra (Robert) Ebert of Roseville, Ralph (Noelle) Dahlen of Hugo, and Linda (Bo) Arbogast of Oberlin, OH; grandchildren, Angela, Shawn, Justin, David, Lindsey, Jolene, Nickolas, Cole, Iris, Eli, and Greta; and great-grandchildren, Brandy, Brittany, Hunter, Jared, Haleigh, Autumn, Landon, Aubrey, Benjamin, and Finn.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlin Hansen Kosloski Funeral Home, 609 Folz Blvd., Moose Lake, MN. The visitation will continue on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral at Oak Lake Lutheran Church, 53131 Shadow Oak Rd, Kerrick, MN. Inurnment will be in Blomskog Cemetery in Windemere Township.
