Ervin B. Prachar
Ervin B. Prachar, 89, Willow River, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born on March 10, 1920 to Bohumil and Rose Prachar in Willow River where he grew up and attended school. In 1942, Erv graduated from the University of MN School of Agriculture. He taught school in LeCenter, MN for about a year prior to entering the United States Navy. Erv served his country from 1943 until 1946 and was a Veteran of WWII. After his Honorable Discharge, Erv moved to Foley where he taught school and met his wife to be, Lorraine. On April 11, 1947, they were married in Foley. In 1947, Erv began teaching Agriculture and Shop in Willow River where he taught for over 35 years retiring in 1982. Erv was very active in Willow River where family, school, and community were very important to him. He was the Willow River City Clerk for 37 years, a member of the Popek-Kostecky American Legion Post #163 of Willow River for 50+ years, a member of the Willow River Commercial Club for over 50 years, and an Election Judge for over 30 years. Erv liked woodworking, hunting, gardening, reading, being outdoors, talking about politics, WWII, and life in the shop. He truly loved people.
Erv was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine in 1999; and two brothers; Henry Prachar and Nick Prachar.
He will be lovingly remembered by his four sons: Terry (JoAnne) Prachar of Moose Lake; Bruce Prachar of Evanston, WY; David (Carol) Prachar of Duluth; and Randy (Millie) Prachar of Middle River, MN; three grandchildren: Chad, Jean, and Ross; 5 great grandchildren; a brother: Joseph Prachar of Willow River; a sister: Albina Sostak of Askov; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue from 10 AM until the 11 AM services on Friday, May 22, 2009 in the funeral home. Military Honors by the Popek-Kostecky American Legion Post #163 of Willow River will be held outside the funeral home following the services. Cremation will follow with private family inurnment held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Willow River.
