Esther Luoma, 91, of Finlayson, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 in Pine Medical Center, Sandstone. She was born December 9, 1918 in Finlayson to Jacob and Sanna Maria (Kankaanpaa) Koski. Esther graduated from Finlayson High School in 1937. Esther was united in marriage to Theodore Luoma on October 11, 1941 in Pine City. In 1942 they moved from Minneapolis to the Luoma farm in Finlayson Township where they Dairy Farmed until the 1960's. In 1955, they also began a poultry business that later became known as Luoma Egg Ranch. Esther was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Finlayson. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, traveling and dancing. Esther especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Esther is preceded in death by her husband Theodore; her parents; 1 great grandchild, Mason Donald Bork; 2 brothers, John and Art Koski; 3 sisters, Elsie Wallentiny, Sylvia Lundgren and June Peterson and an infant brother, Arvo Koski.
Esther is survived by 1 son, Douglas (Dixie) Luoma of Kingsford, MI; 5 daughters, Diane (David) Maser of Hinckley, Sandra (Dennis) White of Finlayson, Nancy (Dale) Wilkening of Sandstone, Judy Luoma of Finlayson and Cheryl (Kurtis) Cabak of Hinckley; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nephew, William Wallentiny of Springfield, VA.
Visitation was on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 10 AM until the 11AM service in St. John's Lutheran Church, Finlayson. Interment was in Finnish Lutheran Cemetery, Finlayson.
