Ethel Mae Appicelli "Grandma Elly", 81, of Barnum, passed away, Thursday, June 27, 2013 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born May 13, 1932 in White Township to Wilho and Signe (Matta) Salo. She graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1953 Ethel was united in marriage to Joseph Appicelli on November 14, 1953 in Duluth. She was employed at Oliver Mining before raising her amazing family. Ethel was very artistic and enjoyed painting oil paintings in her earlier years. She also enjoyed reading, writing and loved traveling to Florida.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sons, Joseph, Gregory and Matthew; sister, Faye LaFreniere; 2 brothers, Floyd and Jimmy.
Ethel is survived by 5 sons, Steven (Kim) of Barnum, John (Bridgette) of Pensacola, FL, Tom of Gilbert, Paul (Heidi) of Winona and Phillip (Dawn) of Winona; 4 daughters, Rachel Appicelli of Stevens Point, WI, Christine (John) Matetich of Hibbing, Mary (Dave) Patten of Sarasota, FL and
Gloria (Bob) Hoffmann of Sturgeon Lake; grandchildren, Jordan Appicelli, John Appicelli, Andrea Appicelli Felicia Appicelli, Tommy Appicelli, Johannah Appicelli, PJ Appicelli, Maria Appicelli, Kaela Appicelli, Anthony Appicelli, Christopher Appicelli, Elizabeth Coad, PJ Helgeland, Alicia Helgeland, Justin Appicelli, Jason Appicelli, Aaron Appicelli, Katrina Currier, Amanda Appicelli, Danielle Lynch, Jonathan Currier, John Peter Matetich, Annamaria Haugen, Misa Matetich, Christina Matetich, Hayden Hoffmann, Tyler Hoffmann and Hayley Hoffmann; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Al (Bonnie) Salo, Stan (Janet) Salo, Will (Annette) Salo, Harold (Joyce) Salo, Sandy Salo, Bob (Annette) Salo, David (Bev) Salo and Brian (Tina) Salo; sisters, June Hamann, Elaine (Matti) Valitalo and Evelyn (Brian) Korpi; many nieces and nephews.
