Obituary

Ethel M. Carlson, 99, of Sturgeon Lake, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born August 12, 1911 at the family home on Sand Lake, Windemere Township. Ethel was the youngest of 8 children born to John and Augusta (Hagberg) Anderson.
Ethel taught school in the 1930's and 40's. She taught at the "C" School, now the Windemere Town Hall. Ethel also taught at the Sturgeon Lake School and the Friesland School where she met her husband, Clarence. They were United In Marriage on August 23, 1938, in Pine City. Over the years, Ethel worked as a tailor in several men's shops in St. Paul, namely Cook's and Theodore's. Ethel and Clarence were active AA and Al-Anon members and were in on the founding of AA and Al-Anon in the state of Minnesota. Ethel and Clarence retired and moved to their lake home on Sand Lake in 1972 and Clarence opened up a carpet shop. Ethel continued on with her job as homemaker. She was famous for her special apple pies.

Ethel is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clarence Carlson; siblings, George, Vern, Phil, Mack, Lyn, Lee and Olive.

Ethel is survived by her nephews, Keith (Audrey) Anderson of Okemos, MI, Charles (Nancy) Carlson and Ross Anderson of Sturgeon Lake; nieces, Marcia (Harry) Bergstedt of Sturgeon Lake, Joyce (Jerry) Jerde of Cloquet, Sharon Carlson, Susan Carlson and Sheila (Duane) Stolpe of St. Paul; special friends, Sue St. Amant and Joe and Yvonne Brebis.

Visitation was held onFriday, July 15, from 11 AM until the Noon Service in Moose Lake United Methodist Church, Moose Lake. Casket Bearers were Jerry Jerde, Ron Renn, Jim Lehet, Ross Anderson, Bruce Wagers and Dan Almquist. Interment was in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Township, Pine County.
