Obituary

Eva Helen Marcus, 97, of Willow River, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born the 10th of 11 children on a ranch near Arthur, Nebraska on December 28, 1912. She graduated from Kearney Teacher's College and taught country school, riding horseback from boarding families' homes. Eva was united in marriage to Joe Marcus on June 29, 1935 in Arthur, Nebraska. In 1939, they moved to Minneapolis where they shared a duplex with George and Ruth Marcus for several years. In 1951 Joe and Eva bought the farm south of Willow River and Eva lived there until she moved to assisted living in November of 2007. Eva enjoyed cooking at Willow River School for several years until 1967 when she started work at the Moose Lake State Hospital after earning both her L.P.N. and Psychiatric Tech. license. She loved her work and after retiring from MLSH in 1987, she nursed for 5 years at Mercy Health Care Center until retiring at age 70. She loved her family, homemaking, gardening, handy work, volunteering and helping and transporting friends as long as she was able. She delivered Meals On Wheels into her 80's and enjoyed meals, socializing and playing cards at the Kettle River Nutrition Center for many years.

Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1968; her parents; infant daughter, Marjory; 10 brothers and sisters and her husband, Joe's brothers and sisters.

Eva is survived by 2 daughters, Myrna Marcus of Mounds View and Nancy (Jerry) Rude of Willow River; 2 grandchildren, Amy Rude of Lakeville, Christian (Amanda) Ruud of Long Island City, NY; many nieces nephews and friends.

A gathering of family and friends was held on Sunday, January 10, from 1 PM until the 2 PM Memorial Service in First United Presbyterian Church, Willow River.
