Evelyn Rose Sway, 85, of Barnum, formerly of Proctor, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She was born January 23, 1923 in Barnum Township to Charles and Margaret (Hennes) Kahring. Evelyn's grandparents were one of the "original 7" families to reside in Barnum Township. Evelyn was united in marriage to Clarence John Sway on August 30, 1942 in Moose Lake. Evelyn was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake and St. Ann's Guild. She enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, baking and traveling. Evelyn especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was well liked by everyone who knew her.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; son-in-law, Terry Harris; her grandson Mark's fiancé, Baby Mari-Lyn Balmeceda; 2 brothers, Donald & Richard; 2 sisters, Lois Erickson & Gladys Schlafer.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Mike (Peggy) Sway of Barnum, Anita (Stan) Butkiewicz of St. Paul, Gary (Janet) Sway of Kerrick, Joan (Chris Aufderhar) Kociemba of Sturgeon Lake and Lynn Harris of Chula Vista, CA; 7 grandchildren, Jenny, Jill, Mark, Aaron, Christina, Aric and Nick; 11 great grandchildren, Brody, Dylan, Nicole, Cortney, Lance, Zachary, Charlie, Hailey, Morgan, Tanner and Bryn; 1 sister, Joyce (Paul) Weske of Minneapolis.
Visitation was held Saturday, December 20, from 9:30 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake with Father Eamonn Boland as the celebrant. Cremation followed. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Barnum.
