Fredrick Victor Carlson, Jr., resident of Hinckley, died at his home on Monday, December 16 th , 2019. He was born in Duluth, MN to Fredrick and Catherine Carlson on August 7 th , 1943.
Fred grew up in the Moose Lake area, graduating from Moose Lake High School in 1961. Immediately after, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably as a Lance Corporal from 1961 through 1964. He was proud of his service to our country and earned a Good Conduct Medal for his dedication. Fred worked in a warehouse in Los Angeles, CA as a forklift operator for many years. In 1994, he returned to Minnesota and began his career as a chef with the Grand Casino Hinckley. After 15 years there, retirement came about and gave Fred the time he needed to do the things he loved most – traveling, spending time with his family, and reading up on civil war history.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Catherine; sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Peterson; brothers-in-law, Alvin Heittola and Richard "Dick" Peterson; niece, Brenda Bougie; and nephews, Nicholas Carlson and Aiden Johnson.
Fred is survived by his siblings, Catherine "Kay" Heittola of Brainerd, MN, Patricia Andrle of Wyoming, MN, Kennard Carlson of Baxter, MN, Leonard (Jan) Carlson of Kassan, MN, Craig Carlson of St. Cloud, MN, Daniel (Ruth) Carlson of Alamo, TX, Eugene (Peggy) Carlson of Brainerd, MN, Sylvia (Michael) Kemiel of Sun City, AZ, Sharon Carlson of Baxter, MN, and Debra (Karl) Anderson of Sun City West, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Social Distancing and Masks are required while attending this service. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
