Garry Arther Abrahamson

Garry Arther Abrahamson, 67, of Rutledge, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home. He was born November 12, 1958, in Sandstone, Minnesota, to Gordon and Fran (Ketchmark) Abrahamson.

If you knew Garry, you probably knew about the beard. You also probably knew that Garry had a pretty good story for just about everything—and usually wasn’t afraid to tell it.

Garry had an early introduction to cars, starting with drinking at the age of 12, owning his first car, and, naturally, crashing it. He spent many years working alongside his dad, Gordy, repairing cars at the family shop. Garry loved cars and motorcycles and could fix just about anything that had an engine. As for all the modern technology found in vehicles these days? Well, let's just say Garry preferred the good old-fashioned stuff.

He worked for Kerrick Sod for most of his career and was known for his hard work, his sense of humor, and, most importantly, his ability to have a good time.

Garry had a special love for his grand dogs. He would often show up with his pockets stuffed full of hot dogs, which he was more than happy to hand out. His real talent, however, was getting the dogs completely wound up before heading home and leaving everyone else to deal with the consequences.

On June 16, 1979, Garry married his wife, Barbara. Together they shared more than 40 years of marriage. They were what you might call a happily married couple—and the evidence was pretty simple: they were almost always together. Garry loved Barbara deeply, and their life together was a partnership in every sense of the word.

Garry enjoyed garage sales and had a particular eye for anything that was free. He spent plenty of time watching the side of the road for treasures, always hopeful that the next stop might finally produce the bag of money he was sure someone had left behind. Unfortunately, that particular jackpot never seemed to materialize.

Garry loved having friends over on Saturdays. There was always something happening at the Abrahamson house. Some might have called them parties, but to the neighbors, it was simply another Saturday at the Abrahamsons. Good friends, good stories, plenty of laughs, and probably a few things that are better left out of the obituary.

More than anything, Garry was someone who knew how to enjoy life. He loved his family, his friends, his cars and motorcycles, his dogs, and a good Saturday gathering. He leaves behind many memories, plenty of stories, and more than a few people who will probably never drive past a garage sale or a pile of roadside “free stuff” without thinking of him.

Garry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara.

He is survived by his son, Mahew (Chantel Pishke) Abrahamson of Hinckley; daughter, Jenny (Adrian Olesen) Chilton of Rutledge; grandchildren, Michael, Brooklyn, Payton, Aiden, and Alaya; nieces and nephews, Pete, Renee, Lisa, Chad, Dawn, and Hannah; sisters, Gwen (Chuck) Bonnin and Jeanie (Jeff) Kiminski; sister-in-law, Linda (Lyle) Jirovec; and brother-in-law, Joe (Dee Dee) Jirovec.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Celebration of Life on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, 609 Folz Blvd., Moose Lake, MN 55767. A gathering of Friends and family will continue after the service at Route 61 Lounge and Bowling, 4654 Co. Hwy 61, Moose Lake, MN 55767.

Garry will be deeply missed by his family and friends. But knowing Garry, he would probably prefer that everyone tell a good story, have a laugh, enjoy a Saturday together, and maybe keep an eye out for something free along the side of the road.

And if there happens to be a bag of money sitting there, well… someone should probably tell Garry.
