Gene Andrew Holman, 79, Cloquet, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in Viewcrest Health Center, Duluth after a difficult battle with cancer.
Gene was born on December 19, 1945 in Cloquet to Orval and Ethel Holman. He grew up in Cloquet and attended Cloquet High School.
Gene began working as a mechanic for Mathers Ford in Cloquet until 1967 when he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. After his military service he returned home and worked for Mathers Ford until 1977.
Gene later became a member of the Local Laborers Union in construction until his retirement in 2002. He was a Life Member of the Cloquet VFW.
Gene met and married Sue Bruno. Together, they owned and operated The Lumberjack Lounge in Cloquet for over 14 years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Most notably, Gene's true passion was spending time at his cabin in Alborn. He roamed his property on his skid steer, clearing trails, riding his side by side. The Lumberjack'd Lodge was always a welcome place for all friends and family. Gene will be fondly remembered for his humble good nature and being kindhearted.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sue, in 2009, brother Gerald Holman, twin brother Jack Holman, and his parents Orval and Ethel Holman.
Gene will be lovingly remembered by his two sons Jamie Psyck and Scott Holman (Theresa Halvorson); grandchildren Tyler (Anna) Psyck Carsen Psyck, Crosby Psyck, and Brandon (Jessica) Halvorson; great grandchildren Kenley, Leo, Carter, and Declan; sister Judy Kelley; special friend Sue Brigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Essentia Oncology, Inter-Faith Care Center, Essentia Hospice, and Viewcrest Health Center for the wonderful care our loved one received.
A gathering of family and friends will be at 3pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 4pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.
Military Honors will be provided by Cloquet Combined Honor Guard following the service.
A reception will follow at The Jack, Cloquet.
Private inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
