Gerald L. Smith, 79, of Sturgeon Lake, died Friday, May 6, 2011 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. He was born December 16, 1931, in Minneapolis to Ray and Sophie (Molosky) Smith. Jerry was a graduate of De La Salle High School. Jerry was a Veteran of the United States Army. Jerry was united in marriage to Bernice Johnston on January 29, 1971 in Brooklyn Center. He was employed at Stage Mechanic at Twin Cities Scenic. Jerry enjoyed hunting, horse shoes, reading, yard work and gardening.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; parents; daughter, Suzanne; grandson, Matthew; brother-in-law, Donald Heins.

Jerry is survived by 2 sons, Michael Gulenchyn of Minneapolis and Kenneth (Kay) Smith of Minnetonka; 4 daughters, Joan (Bob) Manley of Sturgeon Lake, Christine (Kenneth) Stern of Moose Lake, Wendy Delly of Moose Lake and Barbara (Rev. Perry) Kallevig of Elk Grove, CA; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Joan Heins of Ham Lake; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was on Thursday, May 12 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Mass in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Inurnment was held Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
