Gilbert "Gil" Edwin Moonen, 86, passed away on May 26th surrounded by family. He was born February 23, 1938 in Watertown, MN to Bernard and Bernice (Pouliot) Moonen.

Gil married Gayle Wetherille on April 25, 1964, celebrating 60 years of marriage this past April. While Gil was working for Hennepin County Park Reserve, they raised six children eventually moving to Elk River in 1976. After 30 years, Gil retired and they moved to Sturgeon Lake in 1997. In his retirement, Gil enjoyed woodworking, crafting, gardening and many hours at Lake Haven Farm where he loved to socialize, tell stories and lend a helping hand.

He enjoyed being with his family, playing in the woods, deer hunting, bonfires and playing cards.  Our love for him will live on in our memories at the card table, bonfire, hunting stands, golf cart rides, fishing and much much more.

He was preceded in death by grandson Brandon Moonen, brother Leroy Moonen, Brother-in-law, Willie Bauman, Sister-in-Laws Bernice Moonen, Marie Moonen and Cheryl Moonen.

He is survived by his wife Gayle Moonen; six children Michael (Anita) Moonen, Melissa (John) Bistodeau, Patrick (Tracy) Moonen, Steven (Kristin) Moonen, Ann (Boyd) Stuefen and John Paul (Jenny) Moonen; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, siblings, friends and family.

Gil will be missed and never forgotten, he was a wonderful man who loved life, friends, and family.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 31, 2024 in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake.  Cremation will take place after Mass with a private inurnment in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
